Glasgow City Council has struck a deal with groups representing around 19,000 current and former employees making equal pay claims, ending a long-running dispute.
It comes after councillors approved a strategy to fund compensation offers in September and brings the total cost of compensating staff involved in equal pay claims to around £770m.
Council leader Susan Aitken said: ‘Despite the length, complexity and challenges of this process - not least the impact of the pandemic - the city government has never wavered in our commitment to ensuring these women were compensated for the persistent undervaluing of their work over many years.
‘The complex process of replacing the council’s pay and grading system to make it discrimination-proof is well advanced and will draw a line under the era of pay discrimination in Glasgow City Council.’
The agreement, which will see payments being made to 19,000 claimants, has been funded by the sale and leaseback of a range of council buildings.
