Care homes in the Dorset and Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole areas are being invited to take part in an initiative that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to enhance resident monitoring.

The scheme, part of the Department of Health and Social Care’s Digitising Social Care Programme, offers between nine and 22 care homes £10,000 to adopt acoustic monitoring technology that picks up sounds and motion.

Cllr Steve Robinson, cabinet member for Adult Social Care at Dorset Council, commented: ‘This real time notification will allow staff to respond promptly without the need for intrusive regular night-time checks that might disturb residents.

‘It enables staff to focus on addressing immediate needs and it will enable carers to provide more personalised care.’
