An MP has criticised a ministerial response, warning it fails to ‘dispute the notion the Treasury no longer appears to trust’ the levelling up department.
Chair of the Levelling Up, Housing and Communities Committee, Clive Betts, had asked six key questions about the Treasury’s surprise decision to rubber-stamp new capital spending made by the Department for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities (DLUHC) – including cash earmarked for major council projects.
In her response, levelling up minister Dehenna Davison wrote: ‘There were no specific concerns raised by the Treasury about the department’s ability to deliver value for money.’
