Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole (BCP) Council has approved proposals for a new ‘fair and transparent’ staff pay structure.
At a meeting on Tuesday, councillors ‘unanimously’ voted in favour of the single pay structure, which will see that at least 92% of council employees either receive a pay rise or experience no change to their pay.
Both the Unison and GMB trade unions voted in support of the proposals last month, which councillors have now backed with an investment of £1.7m, enabling the changes to be introduced by December 1.
Leader of BCP Council, Millie Earl, said the new structure will ensure that staff whose pay is set to be cut will have their current salary levels protected for 18 months longer.
Ms Earl said: ‘Achieving fairness and equality in our pay and grading structure for our staff has always been our primary aim.
‘Getting to this position has taken a huge amount of hard work and effort from everyone involved and we are delighted that we can now offer fair and transparent pay for our workforce.’
Graham Farrant, Chief Executive of BCP Council said the move is the local authority’s ‘biggest and final milestone following local government reorganisation’.
‘Providing consistency across our pay structure will allow us to offer a package of terms and conditions that enables the council to attract and retain the skills and talent it needs to deliver the best possible services for our residents’, he added.
