Birmingham City Council has a new political administration after a Lib Dem and Green-led coalition was agreed at the council's AGM.
Cllr Roger Harmer (Lib Dem) was voted in as council leader, with Cllr Julien Pritchard (Green) named as deputy leader. The new administration also includes the Better Birmingham and Birmingham Independent Groups.
Harmer pledged to prioritise basic services, singling out the city's long-running bin strike as an issue requiring urgent resolution. He said the coalition demonstrated what could be achieved by putting the city ‘above narrow party politics.’
Pritchard said the Greens were committed to building ‘a greener, safer and fairer city’ and to doing ‘politics differently.’
