Six local authorities in the West Midlands are due to receive £12m of funding to help resurface roads and repair up to 132,000 potholes.
The £12m funding, alongside the £8m Government grant acquired by the Mayor in February, will subsidise newly developed low-carbon surface treatments designed to prolong the lifespan of roads and reduce their CO2 emissions.
To provide the additional financial support that will be divided between Coventry, Dudley, Sandwell, Solihull, Walsall and Wolverhampton, Mayor Richard Parker has redistributed money from the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS) fund.
Mayor Parker said: ‘I know that too many of our roads are blighted with deep potholes, huge cracks and craters – leaving motorists struggling with dangerous driving conditions and large repair bills.’
‘That’s why I decided to reallocate this money to road maintenance budgets. I know our councils will be able to get to work quickly to bring more roads up to scratch and improve journeys for every road user.’
