Tributes have been paid to the former mayor of Croydon, Derek Millard, who has passed away aged 75.
Millard, who represented the Purley ward from 1986 until 2010, served as Croydon Mayor in 2007. During his career in public service, he served on a number of committees including planning and technical services, and had also been chair of the corporate services and pension committees.
Mike Fisher, leader of the council, said: ‘Derek was a well-respected councillor and former Mayor, who, apart from a couple of years in Canada, lived his whole life in Purley, so he was an integral and well-known member of the community he served for so long.’
He is survived by his wife Bunty, who he was married to for more than 50 years, and his two children.
