The Local Government Association (LGA) is to take a more proactive role as it seeks to do more to prevent Whitehall intervention in councils, The MJ understands.

National lead peer for the LGA’s Conservative group, William Nunn, said he feared more councils were heading towards Government intervention and the association needed to adapt.
