Glasgow City Council has unveiled a Community Municipal Investment (CMI), aiming to raise £1m to fund solar energy initiatives across the city.
This marks the beginning of a broader strategy to engage residents, communities, and businesses in financing the city's net-zero transition.
Managed by investment platform Abundance Investment, the CMI offers a low-risk, fixed-return investment opportunity. Investors can participate with a minimum of £5, earning an estimated 4% annual return over a five-year term.
The funds will support the installation of solar panels on council buildings, contributing to Glasgow's goal of reducing energy costs and carbon emissions.
The first phase of the investment opportunity is scheduled to launch in September 2025. A second phase, set for March 2026, will seek an additional £1m to support environmental improvements around schools, care facilities, and active travel initiatives.
