Campaigners are urging the Government not to cut education, health and care plans (EHCPs) for children with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND).
More than a hundred campaigners, including naturalist Chris Packham and actor Sally Philips, have signed a letter warning EHCPs are ‘under threat’.
Published by the Guardian, it says that there is ‘every sign from the Government’ that the right to an EHCP will be removed from children attending mainstream schools.
An EHCP is a legally binding document which ensures a child or young person with SEND in England gets the right support from a local authority.
Education Secretary Bridget Phillipson told the BBC that it is a ‘complex and sensitive area’ when asked if she could rule out scrapping EHCPs.
