An influential group of experts – including council directors – has urged ministers to ditch ‘senseless’ plans to tighten visa requirements for social care and health workers.
The Cavendish Coalition, a group of health and care-related bodies, said that rather than impose fresh restrictions on potential overseas staff, the UK government must do more to attract international applicants to plug gaps in health and social care staffing.
Amid concerns over the UK’s net migration figures – recently revealed as 745,000 last year – the Government is considering plans to restrict the number of dependants that overseas health and social care workers can bring with them to the UK.
The Association of Directors of Adult Social Services (ADASS) is one of the 32 bodies represented by the Cavendish Coalition.
