Leeds City Council is considering cutting over 260 jobs over the next four years to help combat its ‘unprecedented’ £273m financial shortfall.
The council has identified £37.4m of savings for 2025/2026, which will realise further savings of £10.9m and £9.2m in 2026/27 and 2027/28 respectively.
The proposals will see a reduction of 149 posts during 2025/2026, 58 posts in 2026/2027 and a further 55 posts in 2027/2028. The council currently has approximately 3,430 fewer staff than it did in 2010.
‘The cost reduction proposals will help us work towards a balanced budget to combat the unprecedented £273m financial shortfall over the next five years,’ council leader James Lewis said.
‘The council’s initial budget proposals for 2025/26 will be received at December’s Executive Board and subsequent to that will be subject to a period of consultation.’
