Local authority leaders in Scotland have called on the Scottish Government to provide councils with £872m in capital funding in 2025/26.
The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) said the funding boost was required to ‘maximise the benefits’ to communities and to ‘meet local and national targets.’
The funding includes an additional £163m to meet the cost of inflation since 2020 and a full restoration of the £163m cut to the Affordable Housing Supply Programmes from 2023/24.
COSLA's Resources spokesperson, Cllr Katie Hagmann, commented: ‘Without sustainable capital funding, our councils will be unable to invest in much-needed new facilities and community assets.
‘We will be unable to maintain vital existing assets and infrastructure, and importantly we will be in an increasingly challenging position to meet our broader national goals such as the fight to tackle child poverty and meet net zero targets.’
