The chief executives of more than 100 organisations working in the social care sector have warned that without new funding the coming months will be ‘the most difficult we’ve seen in recent years.’

In an open letter organised by the Local Government Association, the social care sector stakeholders welcomed the additional funding of up to £1.3bn for local government, including adult social care, in the recent Budget.

However, it warns that the scope for savings and efficiencies is ‘extremely limited’ and says the current funding is ‘insufficient’ to cover the multiple pressures affecting the sector.

The letter, which was signed by organisations such as the British Association of Social Workers and Age UK, cites Care Provider Alliance findings that reveal 73% of social care providers will need to refuse new packages of care from councils.

‘Without significant new funding, the coming months will likely be the most difficult we’ve seen in recent years,’ it reads.
