A local company in Wirral is investing £20m into a new headquarters that will generate ‘dozens of jobs’ and boost economic growth.

Wood product manufacturer, Finsa UK, is to deliver the multimillion-pound project at a site in Wirral Waters, according to a statement published yesterday by Wirral Council.

After having been based in Birkenhead for over 25 years, the company is to relocate from Vittoria Dock to the Freeport tax site to develop its new 170,000 square foot headquarters, which the council has confirmed will include a £2m dockside crane that other port-focused businesses can also make use of.

Backed by both the council and Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, the project is anticipated to ‘safeguard the existing 50 direct and indirect local jobs’ in cargo handling for Finsa UK, as well as improving capacity at the company’s site.

The council has explained that the scheme will also assist in creating ‘inclusive job growth over the next five years in line with cargo increase forecasts by retaining and growing skilled jobs and local supply chains’.

Leader of Wirral Council, Cllr Paula Basnett, said: ‘Finsa’s decision to consolidate its operations here and commit to long-term growth demonstrates the strength of our local economy and the attractiveness of our borough as a place to do business.

‘Safeguarding jobs and creating new high-quality employment is at the heart of our economic strategy, and projects like this show how partnership working can deliver real benefits for local people and businesses.’

Raquel Carrillo, Managing Director, Finsa UK, added: ‘This project lays the foundation for decades of sustained growth and enables us to contribute proudly to the regeneration of Birkenhead Docks by delivering modern port infrastructure.’
