Nine councils in Wales are due to receive £31.5m to support ongoing development projects in local towns and communities.
The Welsh Government has now invested £70m overall for the 2024/25 financial year as part of their commitment to boosting local economies and renewing community spaces across the country.
As the Welsh Government’s Transforming Towns Programme continues for a fifth year, each of the 22 local authorities in Wales will receive further funding that enables them to refresh public buildings, landmarks and housing.
To ensure the future success of the programme, £40m has been allocated by the Government to support local authorities’ 2025/26 budgets.
Cllr Hazel Evans, Carmarthenshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Regeneration, Leisure, Culture and Tourism said: ‘The funding that we have already received has enabled the county council to redevelop and deliver more retail sites, housing for local residents and improved facilities in Ammanford, Carmarthen and Llanelli town centres.’
‘It’s so important that we continue to create places that serve the needs of local communities while celebrating their unique heritage and character. That way, we can support communities’ future while also championing their past’, added Jane Bryant, Cabinet Secretary for Housing and Local Government.
