A parish council in Norfolk has invited residents’ views on a flock of feral chickens residing in the village.

The clucking of around 100 chickens in Snettisham is reportedly keeping villagers up at night, while people travelling to see the birds have left food that has attracted rats, leading to rising tensions between residents and visitors.

Snettisham Parish Council denied it was threatening to ‘evict’ the flock following reports that a rescue charity had been called in, but said it had sought advice from Fresh Start for Hens among several sources.

The council invited villagers to ‘discuss the issue with the chickens’ at its annual parish assembly this evening.

It will decide whether anything needs to be done once it has all the information.
