Unions have put in their pay claims on behalf of local government employees in Scotland.

UNISON have called for a 6.5% increase in 2025-26, which the union says is ‘a necessary step to address the severe erosion of pay’ for all local government workers.

GMB and Unite have lodged a joint claim of an increase of £1 per hour, or 6.5%, whichever is greater, plus more annual leave.

UNISON Scotland’s local government committee chair, Collete Hunter, said: ‘We need fair pay for all local government staff. This is a pragmatic claim which addresses the devaluation of local government worker’s pay. It also calls for a minimum of £15 an hour.’
