Trade unions representing council staff across the country have called on local government employers to improve on the 3.2% pay offer.

UNISON members have joined GMB and Unite in ‘overwhelmingly’ rejecting the latest pay offer, the union’s head of local government Mike Short has confirmed.

He added that the three unions have written to local government employers urging them to come back with ‘a better and fairer proposal.’

‘Any new offer needs to reflect the vital work council and school support staff do,’ he said.

‘It must also be comparable with the pay settlements already awarded to other public sector workers.’
