Councils are continuing to battle with the impact of cost increases on budgets despite consumer inflation falling by half since earlier this year, says the leader of England’s county treasurers.
President of the Society of County Treasurers Michael Hudson told The MJ: ‘There are mind-blowing percentage increases [in the cost of children’s placements].
‘We have seen social care placement cases as high as £85,000 a week for one child.
'That has now been brought back down, but we have cases costing more than £30,000 a week.’
Consumer price inflation in the UK rose by 4.7% in the year to October – down from 6.3% in September.
