Town council launches crowdfunding scheme

A council in Somerset has launched an online crowdfunding scheme to pay for local projects.

Frome town council says community groups, businesses, social enterprises and individuals will be able to raise funds through a new website page.

Eligible projects will include those which 'build a flourishing and active community, increase environmental sustainability or help with prosperity'.

Among the first projects which could benefit are bids for new lights for the town's football club, a baby café and a breastfeeding support service.

Cllr Kate Bielby said: 'We’re the first town council in the country to partner with Crowdfunder to create a local fundraising platform.

'We think it will not just make our community grant funding go further but help ensure it goes to the right local projects.'
