SOLACE president among New Year honours

The current president of the chief executives’ society Byron Davies received an OBE in the New Year’s Honours list, one of a crop of senior local government figures to be awarded.

Mr Davies, president of SOLACE, is also chief executive of Cardiff CC and there were also OBEs for Nina Dawes, Lichfield DC’s chief executive, Wirral’s chief Stephen Maddox and Rob Sykes, the retiring chief at Worcestershire CC.

South Tyneside chief executive Irene Lucas receives a CBE as does Kent CC’s director of children’s services Graham Bradman, while Kettering chief David Cook gets an MBE.

Among local politicians, Hackney LBC’s rehabilitation is confirmed by an OBE for its directly-elected mayor
Jules Pipe while there are OBEs for East Riding leader Stephen Parnaby and Derbyshire member Dave Wilcox, chair of the Local Government Information Unit.

And Westminster City’s assistant chief executive John Barradell received an OBE for his work with the Metropolitan Police Special Constabulary where he ended up as chief officer.

One of the council’s road sweepers Edward Wilson who retired last summer after 33 years receives an MBE.
