Reform UK council leader announces Lincolnshire County Council needs to rethink its service delivery to ensure sufficient savings.
Cllr Sean Matthews told the Local Democracy Reporting Service that the council needs to ‘cut waste’ in order to save ‘at least £25m’.
Noting the increased costs and lack of Government funding faced by councils, Cllr Matthews said it will be necessary to ‘scrutinise every penny’ spent.
‘We need to think differently about our services, so that we're only spending taxpayers' money on things that people actually care about and rely on’, said Cllr Matthews.
‘I want to make council services better for residents, and make their lives better, but we need to streamline and modernise services to do that within our available budget’, he added.
In the council’s scrutiny and management board meeting last Thursday, Cllr Matthews said that if an efficiency review was requested, ‘it would be conducted in line with the constitution, in a safe and legal manner, with the full support and advice and involvement of the officers of the council.’
