Public interest in preventative healthcare is increasing, but a new survey suggests that NHS digital infrastructure is not yet keeping pace.
A report from PA Consulting, based on a national survey of NHS leaders, finds growing support for a ‘prevention-first’ approach, using digital tools such as health apps, wearables and at-home diagnostics to reduce illness and address health inequalities.
Public engagement is rising, with 33.6 million people now registered on the NHS App. However, the report highlights challenges in scaling digital prevention initiatives. No respondents said they felt adequately supported by national bodies to expand local innovations, and some leaders reported limited benefits from existing digital solutions.
The survey of 66 healthcare leaders indicates strong appetite for progress, with most leaders identifying improved data integration, a Single Patient Record and multi-year funding as critical enablers. Many also emphasised the importance of working with local communities and the voluntary sector to build trust.
