Long term sick leave at North Norfolk District Council (NNDC) has nearly doubled over the last year, new figures reveal.
The council’s staff took 1,267 days off with long-term sickness between 2025/26. This is up from 738 days the previous year.
Total sickness absence across the authority also jumped from 2,195 days to 2,409 days.
An NNDC spokesperson commented: ‘Time off work due to sickness fluctuates from year to year and season to season.
‘The average days per year per employee lost to sickness is 8.1, the national average across both public and private sector is 9.4 days per year.
‘The total days lost to long term sickness at NNDC relates to a very limited number of employees with specific and challenging health issues, rather than being indicative of a trend in overall sickness patterns.
‘NNDC has a number of support mechanisms to address any specific health issues contributing to time off work over and above expected levels.’
