London boroughs get connected

London has become the first region in the UK to connect all of its local authorities to one shared network.

The London Public Service Network (LondonPSN) allows all 33 London boroughs to share data and services much more easily, and is expected to save up to £1bn over the next decade.

The scheme, supported by London Grid and Virgin Media Business, will also support schools and other public bodies, by giving them access to shared facilities such as the government intranet.

‘It’s been fantastic to see the momentum this project has gained since we kicked off last year,’ said chief information officer for Camden Council, John Jackson. ‘I am particularly excited by the potential for savings which a shared service of this magnitude could bring.’
