Efforts to deliver affordable housing in Leeds have been undermined by Right to Buy, the city council has warned.
Council figures reveal that Leeds has seen a net gain of only 22 affordable properties in recent years, negating the progress made in the social housing sector.
Although the development of affordable housing has surged over the last 10 years, with 5,134 new builds being constructed in total, 5,112 of these have been allocated to tenants eligible for the Right to Buy scheme.
Cllr Jess Lennox said: 'We were clear in our response to central government’s recent consultation on the reform of Right to Buy that routes into affordable home ownership for local residents must be maintained, but this cannot be at the expense of those most in need.'
