Smith Square is poised to amend its position on Right to Buy, The MJ has learned.

The Local Government Association (LGA) has long called for councils to retain 100% of Right to Buy receipts, and Treasury permission to combine receipts with other Government grants.

But a meeting of the LGA’s local infrastructure and net zero board on 23 November was asked to consider further lobbying positions – including extending the five-year time limit in which receipts must be spent and altering the current cap on acquisitions.

An LGA spokesperson said: ‘Officers are now using that [board] feedback to draft a position statement on Right to Buy which will be published in due course. Our existing position on Right to Buy remains the same, but we will be making enhancements to it.’
