Council bosses have called for an extension of the family hubs programme after the Government announced that all local authorities involved in the scheme offer access to a centre.

In 2022, the Government selected the 75 upper-tier local authorities that it would fund – until March 2025 – to run family hubs.

Support available through the hubs includes early language and communication development, mental health support for parents and carers, and programmes for improving children’s home development.

Education secretary Gillian Keegan said: ‘Family hubs act as one-stop-shops and provide a universal offer to parents and families to provide them with extra support when they need it.

‘This support is on hand for parents and carers from conception through to those teenage years.’

The chairman of the Local Government Association’s community wellbeing board, David Fothergill, said: ‘It is good news that new family hubs are open for people who need them and this is a testament to the hard work of councils.

‘We’d now like to see this scheme extended to all councils so these transformative benefits can be felt across the country.’
