Electric vehicle users are to benefit from GPS tracking systems to help minimise theft across local areas.
Launched by electric vehicle (EV) charging network company InstaVolt, the initiative will involve charging cable networks across the nation being fitted with tracking devices to detect cases of cable theft.
Delivered alongside Trackit247, the scheme is designed to support both the local police and motorists.
According to InstaVolt, the geo-fenced devices will provide live location updates and send security alerts if chargers are moved outside the boundary, protecting against ‘fast-growing crime’ within the EV charging industry.
CEO of InstaVolt Delvin Lane said: ‘By adopting GPS technology, we’re setting a new benchmark for how the industry can deter offenders, safeguard infrastructure and support law enforcement.
‘Cable theft is a growing challenge for our industry, threatening the confidence of EV drivers and undermining investment in charging infrastructure.’
