Government has confirmed a funding boost to support the installation of 100,000 new local electric vehicle (EV) chargepoints.
In a recent announcement, Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood revealed £381m will be provided from the Local Electric Vehicle Infrastructure (LEVI) Fund to help deliver 100,000 on-street EV charging points.
The investment will enable those without driveways or with limited access to public charging stations and off-street parking to transition to EV use more seamlessly.
Whilst over 80,000 public chargepoints currently exist across the UK, the funding will offer further ‘support to industry and local authorities across England’.
Future of Roads Minister, Lilian Greenwood, said: ‘This government is powering up the EV revolution by rolling out a chargepoint every 29 minutes and our support to roll out over 100,000 local chargepoints in England shows we’re committed to making even more progress.
‘We’re delivering our Plan for Change by investing over £4bn to support drivers make the switch, while backing British carmakers through international trade deals – creating jobs, boosting investment and securing our future.’
