Elections could be postponed in reorganisation areas

Councils undergoing local government reorganisation (LGR) could see elections postponed by a year.

Local government minister Alison McGovern has written to the 63 councils in LGR areas due to go to the polls in May 2026 asking them to submit views on postponement by 15 January.
