‘Limited’ Home Office communication over asylum – including poor data sharing - continues to stymie efforts to resolve accommodation problems, councils have warned.

Despite previous warnings that poor communication had exacerbated asylum challenges, the sector remains concerned the Home Office and its contractors are still not sharing key information quickly enough.

A recent report by the West Midlands Strategic Migration Partnership (WMSMP), seen by The MJ, read: ‘Limited Home Office communication with local authorities in relation to the procurement of large sites, or in the sharing of data with local authorities, continues to be a challenge.’

The WMSMP has attempted to resolve problems by hosting ‘urgent’ multi-agency forums, including talks with Home Office contractor Serco to ‘ensure that information is improved and going to the correct points of contact’.

A spokesman for Serco insisted it worked with local partners to share relevant communication.
