The ‘financial resilience’ of the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead is in question after a Cabinet meeting heard this year's forecast overspend had risen from £9.9m to £12.4m.
A council spokesperson said the local authority’s financial challenges were the result of rising demand for services, particularly social care and homelessness accommodation.
They also warned that a lack of reserves caused by ‘historical decisions and accounting inaccuracies’ means the council does not have the ‘financial resilience to meet pressures of this scale.’
‘Discussions with government on essential financial support continue but we also know there will be tough decisions ahead,’ the spokesperson added.
