The Government has released nearly £7m extra funding to help councils pay for the damage caused by recent flooding and severe weather.
The funding, which follows calls by council leaders to help finance the cost of flood repairs, will provide recovery funding of £6.7m to repair roads, housing and infrastructure across the country.
Local government minister, Brandon Lewis, said: ‘This extra £7m that can be used to help affected communities, will provide local authorities and their partner agencies additional resources they need to support recovery.
‘This will top up support councils can get under the Bellwin scheme to cover the costs of clearing up after severe weather and flooding, and the substantial funding councils already get for potholes.’
The Bellwin scheme, which opened last month, allows councils to apply for emergency financial assistance.
The Department for Food and Rural Affairs is currently working out the cost of repairing flood defences.
