Plans are being drawn up that will give councils more of a say in where asylum seekers are accommodated.
The Local Government Association (LGA) and the Home Office are holding meetings to develop a plan to create a ‘fair and equitable asylum dispersal system’ but they warned it would 'not be achieved on day one of the new contract’.
Talks were spurred by the awarding of new contracts to provide housing for new arrivals as they await decisions on asylum applications.
