Mid Devon District Council is reducing the size of its senior officer team by axing the role left by a retired director.
Former director of business improvement Jill May retired in May this year.
The additional responsibilities will be divided between the remaining leadership team, which consists of the chief executive; section 151 officer; director of place; and the monitoring officer, who is also the district solicitor.
Advice on the revised structure was sought from the Local Government Association (LGA).
As part of the LGA’s assistance, the four officers in the current leadership team were interviewed, with feedback reflecting a set of ‘excellent relationships and remarkable collaboration’.
The council said the main risk involved in the decision was to the capacity of strategic officers, but that it considered the risk ‘minimal’.
