Kensington & Chelsea LBC is among the defendants that have agreed a £150m civil compensation settlement for victims of the Grenfell tragedy.

Confirmation of the huge legal settlement emerged at a High Court hearing in London today, although not all details have been made public.

A spokesperson for Kensington & Chelsea said the council would not yet disclose its full civil liability though the figure will appear in the authority’s annual accounts.

The fire at the Grenfell Tower in June 2017 ended in the deaths of 72 people.

Lawyers representing survivors of the tragedy and bereaved families said compensation of around £150m had been awarded across 900 cases in the ‘global settlement’.
