Officers from across South Lanarkshire Council have been sacked for circualting a 'joke' email featuring Gary Glitter.
An undisclosed number of employees across the council have been dismissed and others have received final written warnings over the circulation of an email featuring the image of a child’s face superimposed on a shopping bag carried by Gary Glitter.
The council has refuted claims printed in the Sunday Mirror that pictures of children from their own at risk register were pasted into the image and circulated by members of their social services team, but admitted that the original message, which was e-mailed widely around the UK had been circulated by staff.

'This image is totally inappropriate and represents a gross misuse of council email,' said a spokeswoman.
'A council investigation is continuing and we are working through the disciplinary process.'
