Cheshire West and Chester Council has warned that over 400 jobs cuts are ‘unavoidable’ as it tries to save £49m over the next three years.
The council said the potential job reductions would affect mainly senior and middle management and would save £14.7m.
Council leader, Mike Jones, said: ‘In an ideal world we would not be considering further job losses and we will do everything we can to manage this situation with empathy and understanding.
‘However, the stark reality of this situation is that you cannot save this amount of money – and protect services – without being forced into making some extremely difficult decisions.’
The council hopes the reduction in staffing levels could be found through retirement and voluntary redundancy.
