Local government expects to save more than £670m by embracing the Digital by Default agenda, according to a new survey of senior executives.
The Public Sector Channel Shift Strategies Survey Report 2015 by GOSS Interactive reveals that moving to online channels such as web and social media is expected to councils around £1.55m each next year, an increase of 345% in 2014.
The survey shows that more than half (53%)of senior executives plan to move between 25-74% of their services online, with 42% saying mobile web will produce the most savings.
However, the key barriers to channel shift in 2015 remain lack of budget (20%), system integration (20%) and staff culture (17%).
Rob McCarthy, CEO at GOSS Interactive, said: ‘This survey uncovers a lot of new information about how the public sector is continuing to approach Channel Shift. It is promising to see that so many are looking to absorb further budget cuts by improving service delivery and accelerating their Channel Shift projects over the next 12 months.
‘A growing focus on process efficiencies and mobile optimisation demonstrates that organisations are now beginning to rethink and redesign their operations to realise greater cost savings and truly deliver a superior customer experience.’
The survey also reveals a shift towards Business Process Mapping (BPM) with 25% saying they plan to adopt it in 2015 to accelerate Channel Shift.
