The leadership of Slough Borough Council should take ‘immediate mitigating action’ as the local authority is at risk of going £11m over budget this year, according to cabinet papers.
The council, which was forced to declare effective bankruptcy in 2021, also overspent by £14m over the past year.
The council's overspend is mostly the result of increased demand on adult social care and homelessness services.
Slough BC’s financial recovery is ‘heavily dependent’ on the sale of assets, council officers report.
However, the local authority only managed to raise £223.5m from asset sales by the end of March – far short of its £400m target.
The aim of raising £600m by March 2027 has also ‘proved unrealistic’.
