The Local Government Association (LGA) has called for a funding boost to prevent cuts to youth services.
Its new survey found two-thirds of councils had not increased spending on youth services in the past five years.
The LGA called for the funding previously given to the National Citizen Service (NCS), which amounted to £54.2m this year before the Government announced the end of the scheme, to be devolved to councils and spent on provision for young people.
LGA children and young people board chair Arooj Shah said: ‘Councils are striving to provide youth services amid severe financial constraints but lack sufficient resources to invest in these, and so are reliant on the wider sector to support them.
‘Without adequate funding, many local youth services are under threat, and remain at risk of being reduced or in danger of being cut altogether.’
