Bristol City Council is considering scrapping the city’s Knowledge Test because it presents a ‘significant barrier’ to new taxi drivers.
The test, which requires taxi drivers to memorise road names, is ‘outdated’ because the vast majority of drivers use satellite navigation devices, according to a council report.
Just eight of the 133 people to take the 90-minute test this year passed.
‘The level of detailed local knowledge required to pass the test is significant and represents a significant barrier to entering the trade,’ the report said.
