Two men have been arrested amid an investigation into an explosion in Sidcup that damaged a ULEZ camera and surrounding property.
A 60-year-old and a 61-year-old were arrested yesterday on suspicion of conspiracy to cause an explosion likely to endanger life or property.
The 61-year-old was also arrested on suspicion of causing criminal damage.
The Metropolitan Police were called to reports of an explosion on Willersley Avenue, Sidcup, on the evening of 6 December. Police said the explosion was caused by a ‘low-sophistication improvised explosive device’.
It is believed that a ULEZ camera – which had been installed on the road earlier that day – was cut down 90 minutes before the explosion.
Detective chief superintendent Trevor Lawry, who is commander for the Bexley area, said the explosion ‘could easily have had far more harmful consequences’.
Both men remain in custody at a south London police station and searches are ongoing at two addresses in Sidcup and Horsham.
