A new investment zone has been announced for West Yorkshire focused on life sciences.
Based around universities in Leeds, Bradford and Huddersfield and the region’s cluster of life sciences businesses, it is expected to provide 2,500 jobs and £220m of investment over the next five years.
The Government, West Yorkshire Combined Authority and councils will co-develop plans, including agreeing specific interventions to drive long-term growth, ahead of their final confirmation.
The priorities will be skills training to provide a ‘talent pipeline’ and business support to encourage investment and innovation.
West Yorkshire Mayor Tracy Brabin said: ‘We know that devolution is working for West Yorkshire and this new investment zone is further recognition of that from the government.’
