Mayor Richard Parker has announced a £40m Social Housing Accelerator Fund to fast-track the delivery of 1,000 new social homes across the West Midlands.
Speaking at a new housing development in Coventry, the mayor said the fund will convert properties ready for occupation, under construction, or soon-to-be-built into affordable social rent homes, building on the 750 social homes already unlocked since taking office.
The announcement comes amid rising housing pressures, with 7,450 households, including nearly 15,000 children, living in temporary accommodation and over 65,000 households on social housing waiting lists.
The mayor emphasized that ‘cutting red tape’ is key to delivering homes quickly and announced a target of 2,000 social homes a year by 2028.
