The Convention of Scottish Local Authorities (COSLA) has warned trade unions face a choice between ‘real cuts to jobs and services’ and increased pay.

Unions today rejected the latest offer from COSLA, which said it had yesterday ‘enhanced an already strong offer’ after council leaders went to the ‘absolute limits of what local government can afford’.

COSLA’s resources spokesperson Katie Hagmann said: ‘It must be remembered that we are talking about a pay package worth more than £440m, specifically targeted at the lower end of our workforce.
