The London borough of Tower Hamlets is the worst area for recycling in England, new research has revealed.
Enviro Homes Renewables analysed the most recent data from the Department for Environment, Food & Rural Affairs to reveal the percentage of waste recycled, reused, or composted by each council.
Tower Hamlets recycles the least of any area in England, according to the research, with just 17.7% of all waste collected being sent for reuse, recycling, or composting and 284.1kg of waste collected per person in the 2022-23 period.
Liverpool City Council was a close second on the list. 17.9% of all household waste was sent for reuse, recycling, and composting and 369.6kg of household waste was collected per person during the same period.
Coming in third on the list was Barrow-in-Furness Borough Council (18% and 345.5kg) while the London Borough of Wandsworth (22.4% and 285.5kg) and Birmingham City Council (22.9% and 336.7kg) were fourth and fifth respectively.
