Solar PV panels have been installed at nine locations as part of Havering Council’s aims to cut carbon emissions.
According to the council, the energy generated at the nine corporate sites could see 175 tonnes of carbon offset by the end of the year, with the potential to produce roughly £76,000 in savings annually.
The solar panels have been installed at the following locations across the community: Avelon Centre, Yew Tree Centre, Hornchurch Library, Rainham Library, Town Hall, Romford, MyPlace, Central Library, Bedford’s Park Depot and Harold Hill Library.
Following planned improvements to the Romford Town Hall system and the central depot, the local authority has revealed that the scheme could save an estimated £100,000 per year.
Cllr Natasha Summers, Cabinet Lead for Climate Change and Housing Need, said: ‘This is a fantastic step forward in our commitment to tackling climate change and reducing our carbon footprint.
‘By investing in solar energy across our estate, we’re not only cutting emissions but also saving money. These projects support our wider environmental aims and demonstrate how local government can lead by example in the transition to a low-carbon future.’
